The Tamarind tree is a Leguminous  tree bearing edible fruit that is indigenous to Africa . The genus Tamarindus is a monotypic type of  tree , meaning in full  that it contains only this species. It belongs to the family fabaceae .

The tamarind tree produces a brown pod-like Fruit that contains a very  sweet, tangy pulp, which is used in the best Kitchens around the world. The pulp is also used in old traditional medicines and believe it or not as a shoe polish. The tree’s wood can be used for making furniture, carvings, turned objects such as mortars and pestles, chopping blocks, and other small specialty wood items the tamarind seed can be processed and produce Tamarind Seed Oil. AS a side note the tamarind’s younger  leaves are used in Filipino and Indian  cookery.

A good mature tree is capable of producing up to 180+ kg (396.83+ lb) of fruit per year.
