Kra Nhoung, despite being a well known hardwood tree, Kra Nhoung trees are related to leguminous plant species which is the same as the pea family.

Kra Nhoung can grow up to 15 -20 meters tall with a wide and often twisted tree trunk. Its leaves are alternately placed , and normally have 7 to 9 egg shaped leaves. The tree’s flowers are white, fragrant and have a similar look to a pea flower. The fruits from the trees are thin, flat, delicate pods containing 1-3 seeds.

Kra Nhoung trees are known as rosewood, a very expensive type of timber species with most famous and lovely red sapwood that grows darker with age and produces a highly durable wood supply highly sought after.

Kra Nhoung trees have become Cambodia’s most valuable tree species used by the local market to make agricultural tools. It is more sought after as an export timber more than often illegally removed from the jungles and forests. Mai Sak Tree / Tectona grandis L.f. from the family of Verbenaceae

It is a large deciduous tree that reaches a height of 40 m in the dense forests of Cambodia.

It has been grown in Asia since ancient times and now it is very popular for planting in moist tropical regions.

The Mai Sak tree trunk is very big going direct to the heavens and has a very circular bole which becomes fluted when old. Bark is grayish brown with longitudinal cracks and the inner part is red and sticky sap.

Leaf is compound, alternate and green in colour, and produces a red tint when it is rubbed. The flower is small about 8 mm across and 45 cm long of head and the colour is pale purple to white.The flowers appear on the top of branches in the non-shaded part of the crown. Fruit is green, hairy, round and woody.

When the tree is young, the fruit’s colour is pale green, and brown when it is mature. One Mai Sak fruit normally produces 2-4 seeds and there are roughly many 1000s of seeds per kilogram. Teak is not indigenous to Cambodia. A number of plantations were established before 1970, such as in Kampong Cham, Pursat and Rattanak Kiri provinces.

There are 29.035 million hectares of natural teak forest estimated in India, Thailand, Lao PDR and Myanmar.The Mai Sak Tree can live in most climates in Asia. In the Northern part of Togo, it grows in a region with annual rainfall of nearly 600 mm and in Bangladesh it grows in a region with annual rainfall close to 4,000mm.The altitude range of this species is 0-1,200 meters and annual temperature 14-36 °C.The best planting conditions are deep soil,well drained,fertile soil PH around 6.5-8.

Teak is used in varieties of things such as building -construction-furniture and so much more. Teak is also suitable for producing an attractive veneer, which is extensively used in the manufacture of furniture and interior fittings.

There is no seed source in Cambodia so we have purchased our own seed supply from Thailand so we can start planting at the end of the rainy season 2022 .Teak starts flowering when it reaches the age of 8-10 years old.The flower usually appears during the rainy season from June to September. Fruiting starts from November to January and falls in the dry season, from May to September. Normally teak fruits are collected as they fall to the ground. Fruits fall from the tree during the dry season.

We will be planting our initial first hectare at a spacing of 1.8 × 1.8 meters. We will conduct a thinning process as the plantation grows 4 times at 5,10,18 and 28 years intervals. Our Mai Sak plantation that we establish will have a tree density of 2,200 trees per /hectare.

Java Apple /Wax Apple Trees is known as Syzygium Samarangense

This tree is a species of flowering plant in the family of Myrtaceae, and originally was being grown in such areas as the Greater Sunda Islands, Malay Peninsula and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, but introduced in prehistoric times to a wider area and now widely cultivated in the Asia and so is now a great Tree in Cambodia.

It has many names in English including wax apple, Java apple, Semarang rose-apple and wax jambu.

Syzygium samarangense is a tropical tree growing to 39 ft in height, with evergreen leaves 4–10 inches in length and 2–4 inches in width. The leaves are elliptic, but rounded at the base; they have a great smell when the leaves are crushed. The trunk of the tree in relation to the tree is small , but has a very wide reaching crown starting very low in the tree’s height . Syzygium samarangense has bark that is gray/pink in color,and can easily flake from the tree similar to a silver birch..

The flowers are white to yellowish-white, 1 inch in diameter, with four petals and numerous stamens per flower. They form in panicles of between 3 and 35 near branch tips of the plant.

The resulting fruit is bell-shaped and is an edible berry, with colors ranging from white, pale green, or green to red, purple, or crimson, to deep purple or even black. The fruit grows 1.6–2.4 inches in length , and has 4 fleshy calyx lobes at the tip of the fruit . The skin is thin and the flesh is white and spongy. Each berry holds 1–2 rounded seeds not larger than 0.3 inches. The flowers and fruit don’t just grow from the main leaves of the tree but can even flower on the branches and main trunk of the tree, which is very unique. When the tree is fully mature it is considered a major crop yield of up to 700 fruits.

When ripe, the fruit will puff and expand outwards, with a slight concavity in the middle of the underside of the bell. Healthy wax apples have a light sheen to their skin . Despite its name, a ripe wax apple only resembles an apple on the outside in color, not in shape or looks . It does not taste like an apple at all but I do like the taste , and it has neither the fragrance nor the density of an apple. Its flavor has very similar qualities to a snow pear fruit , and the liquid-to-flesh ratio of the wax apple is comparable to a watermelon. Unlike either apple or watermelon, the wax apple’s flesh has a very loose interesting texture . The very middle holds a seed situated in a sort of candyfloss network . This mesh is edible, but is totally flavorless. The color of its juice is dependent on the type of plant and can be entirely colorless or purple.

Beng Tree or known as Afzelia Xylocarpa.

Afzelia xylocarpa is a deciduous tree with a broad, rounded crown, usually growing 45- 91 feet tall ,with some trees reaching 131 feet tall ,the bole of the tree is sometimes curved and is highly valuable die to the size it can be 35 – 58 inches in diameter, often with a large buttresses.
